Favorite pregnant film and TV characters

In my pre-baby times, seemingly ages ago, I was quite a movie and TV series junkie. I would go to the cinema twice a week, and watch entire TV box sets in a single sitting. Those times are over, and with still often night-nursing toddler it will be long before life resembles those days.

Anyway, I thought I would share some favorite film and TV characters who are pregnant in the story. I didn´t include the films or series where pregnancy itself plays a central part (Rosemary´s Baby, Away We Go, Juno, Up All Night, etc.), but rather the ones where the girl happens to be pregnant, with all that entails, and still have other things going on in her life.

– Cate Blanchet as Jane Winslett-Richardson in Life Aquatic.  She is a reporter chronicling a sea voyage in the quest of a murderous water creature, expecting a child of her married boss. She causes quite a stir on board by attracting the attention of Captain Zissou and his son.

– Frances McDormand as Marge Gunderson in Fargo: heavily pregnant local police chief investigates a false kidnapping gone horribly wrong.

– Rachel Griffiths as Brenda Chenowith in Six Feet Under: highly intelligent and equally messed up, she has a stormy on-off relationship with Nate and after some gut-wrenching drama has the baby she desired for so long.

– Jenna Fischer as Pam Beesly in The Office: what I liked most about this character was the naturality of the way childbirth was portrayed. First, she tries to ignore the contractions staying at the office (of course) too scared to acknowledge the impending labour. After the birth the baby doesn´t latch well in the beginning, and she mistankenly breastfeeds the baby of her hospital roommate (LOL).

Some others that I left out:  Shelly from Northern Exposure, Nancy Botwin from Weeds.
